According to the official biographical details available in Parliament records and government profiles, Jual Oram holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering. He completed his technical education at U.G.I.E. (University Government Industrial Engineering), Rourkela, Odisha.

His engineering diploma provided him with technical knowledge before he entered public life. Unlike many politicians who pursued law or postgraduate degrees, Oram chose a technical education path and later transitioned into public service and politics.

Early Life

Jual Oram was born on March 22, 1961, in Kendudihi village of Lahunipara block in Sundargarh district, Odisha. He was born to Late Shri Teria Dilga Oram and Late Bhutki Oram. Coming from a tribal family in western Odisha, he spent his early years in a rural setting before pursuing technical education in Rourkela.

He married Jhingia Oram on March 8, 1987, and the couple has two daughters. Before becoming a full-time politician, Oram worked as an agriculturist, a profession that continues to be listed in his official profile.

Political Journey

Jual Oram joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1989. Prior to entering Parliament, he served as a Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly for two terms between 1990 and 1998. During the early years of his political career, he also held organisational positions within the BJP, including District Vice-President of BJP in Sundargarh, National Vice-President of the BJP Scheduled Tribe Morcha, National Secretary of BJP, and President of the Odisha BJP across multiple terms.

In 1998, Oram was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha from Sundargarh. He was re-elected in 1999, 2004, 2014, 2019, and 2024, making him a six-time Member of Parliament.

He first became the Union Cabinet Minister for Tribal Affairs in October 1999 under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government and served until May 2004. Following the BJP's return to power, he again held the Tribal Affairs portfolio from May 2014 to May 2019. After winning the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he was once again inducted into the Union Cabinet and has been serving as the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs since June 9, 2024.

Over the years, Oram has also served on several important parliamentary committees, including the Standing Committee on Defence, Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Committee on Official Language, and the General Purposes Committee of the Lok Sabha.

A Technical Education Backed by Decades of Public Service

Jual Oram's educational qualification; a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from U.G.I.E., Rourkela reflects his technical academic background before entering politics. Combined with his experience as an agriculturist and his long tenure in public life, Oram has built a political career spanning more than three decades. As one of India's longest-serving tribal leaders in Parliament, he continues to play a key role in shaping policies related to tribal welfare and development.
