Candidates who have passed 10+2 or the equivalent examination can take up courses for chefs. In order to register for the bachelor's degree or diploma courses, graduating in 10+2 is required. The duration of the course varies from one institute to another.

While pursuing a course, a candidate will also learn about the other related fields such as housekeeping and general management. Candidates will benefit from a course when it offers any specialisation such as baking. After the bachelor's degree, one can also aim for a master's degree.

To become a chef, one should have an inborn love for food besides an experimental mind. Chef Job Prospects

After completing a bachelor's degree, a certificate or a diploma course from an institute, one can join any hotel as an intern. One can also opt for an apprenticeship in the hotel after graduating from class 12.

A trained chef will find many opportunities in hotels and restaurants. They will also get placements in the air catering industry, food processing companies, catering in confectioneries, cruise, clubs and corporate companies. One can also think about setting up their own business related to food and catering.

Chef Hierarchy

The executive chef will be superior to the group of chefs in the kitchen. The job role includes the creation of the menu and personnel management. This position is followed by the sous chef, who assists the executive chef.

The expeditor stands at the third position and is responsible for plating the food in time for waiters to serve the orders. The last position in the hierarchy is shared by the group of chefs. They can be appointed for any specific section such as Chinese, French, continental, dessert and pastry.

Chef Salary In India

The salary of the chef purely depends on their skills. A fresher can earn more than 2.5 lakhs per annum in any three-star hotel. With skills and experience, one can earn more than 6 lakhs per annum. The sous chef will earn at least 4 lakhs per annum in any hotel or restaurant. The sky is the limit for the executive chef.
