Gramin Dak Sevak: Branch Post Master (BPM)

There will be a post office in every village gram panchayat, named as Gramin Dak Seva. The job profile of a Branch Post Master is to coordinate with the team and run the branch of Gramin Dak. If a gram panchayat consists of more than one village, then you have to lead the Mail Deliverer (MD), Mail Carrier (MC) and Packers. The BPM is responsible for opening the maximum number of accounts and promoting government schemes such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. They should also book register posts, speed posts and money orders.

Gramin Dak Sevak: Mail Deliverer (MD)

The work profile of the Mail Deliverer (MD) is not just restricted to the desk. The Branch Post Master will be giving the instruction or targets to MD. The Mail Deliverer is also responsible for making villagers to open the savings accounts in the respective branch. They have to collect the mails from the head office and deliver the same to the respective branch.

Gramin Dak Sevak: Mail Carrier (MC)

The primary responsibility of the Mail Carrier/Collector is to carry the mail from the branch and deliver the same within the village/area. They will also assist the Branch Post Master (BPM) and Mail Deliverer (MD), whenever required.

Gramin Dak Sevak Packers

The work responsibilities of a packer are to perform functions such as opening the mailbag and sorting the mails accordingly. They should also pack the mails that are to be sent to the other branches and offices. They must assist the BPM, MD and MC in every task assigned.

Gramin Dak Sevak Eligibility

Candidates who are aiming to apply for the Gramin Dak Sevak should possess a pass certificate in Class 10 from a recognised board. One must have computer knowledge. The upper age limit to apply for the Gramin Dak Sevak is 40 years and the lower age limit is 18 years. However, age relaxation is provided to candidates belonging to the reserved categories such as SC and ST.

Gramin Dak Sevak Selection Procedure

The selection of the candidates for the Gramin Dak Sevak is based on the marks obtained in Class 10. There will be no written examination. Candidates who have passed the Class 10 in the first attempt will be given a preference. However, possessing higher qualifications will not have any privileges while selecting.

The computer knowledge is the most important one for the GDS. If a candidate doesn't have the computer knowledge, one should do the computer training course for at least 60 days from a recognised training institute. After the selection, candidates need to show the computer training certificate. If a candidate have studied computer as a subject in Class 10 or higher educational qualification, computer training certificate is not required.

Gramin Dak Sevak Salary

The pay scale for Gramin Dak Sevak varies from one state to another. However, the minimum wage will not be less than INR 10,000 per month for the BPM. The minimum salary for the MD, MC and Packer will be more than INR 5,000 per month. The maximum salary will be more based on postal circles. Appearing for the departmental/ internal exams will help in the promotions.
