History of Global Family Day

Global Family Day, also known as World Peace Day, is an annual celebration promoting harmony and unity worldwide. It highlights the concept of a global village where we are all family, transcending citizenship, borders, or race.

In 1997, the United Nations General Assembly initiated the International Decade for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World, starting from the first day of the new millennium. Key figures, including Linda Grover in the U.S., played a role in promoting this concept. Efforts, such as the book "One Day in Peace - January 1, 2000," envisioned a future day without war, focusing on peace.

In 1999, all U.N. member states were invited to formally dedicate the first day of that year to developing strategies for peacebuilding. Recognizing the positive impact, the U.N. declared Global Family Day an annual event in 2001.
