Kharola, a 1985 batch IAS officer from the Karnataka Cadre, was appointed head of Air India in November 2017. He also served as managing director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation.

In 2022, Pradeep Singh was transferred to the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) as chairman.
