Early Life

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya was born on June 1, 1972, in Hanol village of Bhavnagar district, Gujarat. He belongs to a farming family and completed his schooling in Gujarat before pursuing higher education. Political Career

Dr. Mandaviya began his political journey at a young age through student and youth organisations. He was elected as a Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from Palitana in 2002, serving until 2007.

In January 2011, he was appointed Chairman of the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Limited, a Government of Gujarat undertaking. His responsibilities expanded further when he was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2012, representing Gujarat. He was subsequently re-elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2018 for a second term.

During his parliamentary career, he served on several important committees, including the Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, Committee on Industry, Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers, the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Textiles, the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the National Welfare Board for Seafarers, among others.

Ministerial Responsibilities

Dr. Mandaviya entered the Union Council of Ministers in July 2016 as Minister of State in the Ministries of Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, and Chemicals and Fertilizers.

In May 2019, he was elevated as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, while also serving as Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers.

On July 7, 2021, he was appointed Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, leading the Health Ministry during a crucial phase of India's COVID-19 response.

Following the formation of the new Union government in June 2024, Dr. Mandaviya assumed charge as the Union Cabinet Minister for Labour and Employment and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, where he continues to oversee labour reforms, employment initiatives and youth development programmes.
