Why Civil Services Day Is Celebrated On April 21?
The Government has chosen April 21 as 'Civil Services day' to commemorate the day when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the probationers of Administrative Services Officers in 1947 at Metcalf House, Delhi. The first Home Minister of India, Vallabhbhai Patel, had referred to civil servants as the 'steel frame of India'.

On Civil Service Day, Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration are presented to Districts/Implementing Units for implementation of Priority programme and innovation categories.
