How To Pursue A Career In Pharmacovigilance

Candidates who have graduated from life sciences degree such as botany, zoology, biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, etc. are eligible to pursue this field. One can also pursue pharmacovigilance with chemistry as a subject at postgraduate or undergraduate level. However, 50% marks in aggregate are required.

After their graduation, one can take up a certificate or a diploma course related to the pharmacovigilance. There are many certificate courses available for interested candidates. However, the duration varies from one course to another.

Institute of Clinical Research India (ICRI), which has branches across the country, offers diploma courses in pharmacovigilance. The Faculty of Clinical Research (FCR) offers one-year postgraduate diploma and executive diploma course in pharmacovigilance. The Professional Certificate in Pharmacovigilance, offered by Catalyst Clinical Services, is also one of the best available courses.

India is one of the largest producers of pharmaceuticals in the world and is popular even for exporting the pharmaceuticals. There are more than 8000 licensed drug manufacturers in India which will recruit pharmacovigilance professionals in good numbers. The roles and responsibilities of the pharmacovigilance professional include tracking of all the reports related to drugs. They have to review and assess all the documents on drugs. The professional has to enter the database reports as well besides performing the label assessment.

Pharmacovigilance Salary

After completing the certificate or diploma course in pharmacovigilance, one can start their career in this profession with more than 2.5 lakh per annum. In a span of five years, the pay scale of the candidate might land between 5 to 8 lakh per annum. However, the sky is the limit for experienced and skilled persons.
