Political Career
Annapurna Devi began her legislative career in the Bihar Legislative Assembly before the creation of Jharkhand in 2000. She served as a member of the Bihar Assembly from 1998 to 2000 and was appointed Minister of State for Mines and Geology in the Bihar government in 2000.
Following the formation of Jharkhand, she represented her constituency in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly across multiple terms between 2000 and 2014. During this period, she served as Cabinet Minister for Irrigation, Women and Child Welfare, and Registration in the Jharkhand government. She also chaired the Committee on Women and Child Welfare in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, highlighting her longstanding association with issues concerning women's welfare and social development.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Annapurna Devi was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from the Koderma parliamentary constituency. Following her re-election to the 18th Lok Sabha in 2024, she was sworn in as the Union Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development on June 9, 2024.
