All You Need to Know About International Day of Peace 2023
The United Nations has designated September 21 as the International Day of Peace, which is also referred to as World Peace Day. It is committed to promoting world peace, especially the absence of conflict and violent acts, such as those that might result from a brief cease-fire in a fighting zone to allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid. The day was established in 1981 and started being observed in September 1982. Many countries, political parties, military organizations, and individuals observe it.

The UN Peace Bell is rung at the organization's headquarters in New York City to start the day. The bell was a gift from the United Nations Association of Japan and was made from coins given by kids from all continents except for Africa. Its side bears the statement "Long live absolute world peace," which was intended to serve as a "reminder of the human cost of war."
The Purpose of the International Day of Peace:
"Commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all nations and peoples" is the purpose of the International Day of Peace. Simply put, it seeks to create a world where everyone can live in harmony. Almost every element of our existence is impacted by peace. The United Nations selects a different subject for this special day every year, such as "Climate action for peace" or "End racism: build peace." This makes it easier for us to understand that true peace can only be attained when everyone is treated fairly, or that we need to address the climate emergency because it endangers everyone's way of life.
"Peace is needed today more than ever. War and conflict are unleashing devastation, poverty, and hunger, and driving tens of millions of people from their homes. Climate chaos is all around. And even peaceful countries are gripped by gaping inequalities and political polarization, " United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said.
