The Government of Assam, through the Department of School Education, has released the official notification for the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 for candidates aspiring to become teachers at the Lower Primary (Classes I-V) and Upper Primary (Classes VI-VIII) levels. This year's "Special TET" is being conducted to address the shortage of Language-1 teachers specifically in Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar medium schools across the state, aligning with regional education needs.

Who Can Apply
The Special Assam TET 2026 is open to permanent residents of Assam who wish to teach at the primary and upper primary levels in schools where the medium of instruction is Bodo, Garo, Manipuri or Hmar.

The exam is divided into two papers:

Paper I: For Lower Primary teachers (Classes I-V)
Paper II: For Upper Primary teachers (Classes VI-VIII)

Candidates must satisfy the educational and professional qualification requirements as specified in the notification for the respective paper.

Purpose and Importance of Special TET 2026:

For Lower Primary Level (Classes I-V):
Applicants should have passed Higher Secondary (Class 12) or an equivalent examination with the required minimum marks and must possess a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or an equivalent teacher training qualification recognised by the Government of Assam.

For Upper Primary Level (Classes VI-VIII):
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university along with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree, as specified in the official notification.

In addition, applicants must:

Be permanent residents of Assam.
Have proficiency in the medium of instruction relevant to the Special TET, namely Bodo, Garo, Manipuri or Hmar.
