Special ASSAM TET 2026 Notification Released for Lower & Upper Primary Level

The Government of Assam, through the Department of School Education, has released the official notification for the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 for candidates aspiring to become teachers at the Lower Primary (Classes I-V) and Upper Primary (Classes VI-VIII) levels. The notification was issued on January 6, 2026, and online applications opened from January 7, 2026 on the official portals.

This year's "Special TET" is being conducted to address the shortage of Language-1 teachers specifically in Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar medium schools across the state, aligning with regional education needs.

Application Schedule & Important Dates:

  • Notification Release: January 6, 2026

  • Last Date to Apply: February 7, 2026

  • Mode of Application: Online through official sites including sebaonline.org, ssa.assam.gov.in and scert.assam.gov.in

Who Can Apply
The Special Assam TET 2026 is open to permanent residents of Assam who wish to teach at the primary and upper primary levels in schools where the medium of instruction is Bodo, Garo, Manipuri or Hmar.

The exam is divided into two papers:

  • Paper I: For Lower Primary teachers (Classes I-V)
  • Paper II: For Upper Primary teachers (Classes VI-VIII)

Candidates must satisfy the educational and professional qualification requirements as specified in the notification for the respective paper.

Purpose and Importance of Special TET 2026:
This special edition of the Assam TET aims to strengthen education delivery in minority and regional language communities by qualifying teachers who can effectively teach in Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar mediums. The test certificate will be valid for life once issued, providing long-term eligibility for teaching positions in relevant schools.

A TET certificate is a mandatory eligibility requirement for appointment to teaching positions in government and government-aided schools at the primary and upper primary levels in Assam.

Special Assam TET 2026: Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the Special Assam TET 2026 must fulfil the prescribed educational qualifications for the respective teaching levels as notified by the Department of School Education, Assam.

For Lower Primary Level (Classes I-V):
Applicants should have passed Higher Secondary (Class 12) or an equivalent examination with the required minimum marks and must possess a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or an equivalent teacher training qualification recognised by the Government of Assam.

For Upper Primary Level (Classes VI-VIII):
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university along with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree, as specified in the official notification.

In addition, applicants must:

  • Be permanent residents of Assam.

  • Have proficiency in the medium of instruction relevant to the Special TET, namely Bodo, Garo, Manipuri or Hmar.

  • Meet all other conditions mentioned in the official notification issued by the authorities.

  • Candidates are advised to carefully read the detailed eligibility norms available on the official websites before submitting their applications.
