The 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature goes to French novelist Annie Ernaux

- 82-year-old Ernaux is only the 17th female writer to have won the literature Nobel - which is regarded as the most prestigious award in world literature.
- Unlike most of the famous literature honours worldwide, Nobel Literature recognizes an author's full body of work and not just a single book.
- She writes in French and the English Version of most of her books are published later for global readers.
About Her
- She debuted as an author in 1970 with 'Les armoires vides' which was later translated into English as 'Cleaned Out' in 1990.
- However, She received global accolades and attention with the book 'A Man's Place' in 1992.
- It was the English version of her fourth book 'La place' which was published in 1983.
Why She Has Been Given the Nobel 2022 Literature Prize?
A statement by the Nobel committee read, "Her work is uncompromising and written in plain language, scraped clean. And when she with great courage and clinical acuity reveals the agony of the experience of class, describing shame, humiliation, jealousy or inability to see who you are, she has achieved something admirable and enduring."

National Lok Adalat to be held on 12th November 2022 across the country to dispose of pending consumer cases through settlement.
Over 6 lakhs consumer cases are pending in India with the Department of Consumer Affairs
Most cases are related to insurance (1,68,827) followed by banking (71,379) and electricity (33919).
Uttar Pradesh tops the number of pending cases with 28318.
National Lok Adalats keep on happening from time to time but a single day is dedicated to holding it throughout the country, in all the courts right from the Supreme Court to the District level.
Department of Consumer Affairs is the authority responsible for promoting consumer rights and awareness and for addressing consumer grievances.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) gets its 3rd Regional Office in Mumbai
This will serve the western region of the country.
CCI - headquartered in Delhi - already has two Regional Offices in Chennai (serving southern region) and Kolkata (serving eastern region).
CCI is a statutory body established to give a level playing field for all businesses - big and small.
It regulates competition among businesses in India and ensures that big fish don't eat the small fish in the market.
It promotes the best and fair business practices in the country and facilitates ease of doing business.
Instituted on 14 October 2003, CCI became fully functional in May 2009 with Dhanendra Kumar as its first chairman.
Ashok Kumar Gupta is serving as the current Chairman since 2018.
Update on Gambia's children's deaths linked to Indian Cough Syrup
Indian government asks WHO to share Certificate of Analysis with it. Certificate of Analysis will help in knowing whether the cause of death was the consumption of Indian Syrup contaminated with Diethylene/Ethylene glycol
The cough syrup in question is manufactured and exported by an Indian company Maiden Pharmaceutical Limited (Sonepat, Haryana).
The company is not licensed to sell products in India. All it has is a license to produce and export 4 medicines namely Promethazine Oral Solution BP, Kofexnalin Baby Cough Syrup, MaKoff Baby Cough Syrup and MaGrip n Cold Syrup. Incidentally, Gambia is the only country the company exports its products to.

New Delhi to host the 5th Assembly of International Solar Alliance from October 17-20, 2022
109 countries are going to participate in this assembly where critical issues of energy access, energy security, and energy transition are planned for discussion.
The Assembly is the apex decision-making body of ISA responsible for making and implementing policies and regulations regarding solar energy globally.
International Solar Alliance (ISA) is the first international intergovernmental organization to be headquartered in India.
ISA’s mission is to unlock US$ 1 trillion of investments in solar by 2030 while reducing the cost of the technology and its financing.
It promotes the use of solar energy in the Agriculture, Health, Transport and Power Generation sectors.

National Games 2022 : Services continue to lead the medals tally
Three-time defending National Games champions, 'Services' leads the National Games 2022 medals table with 96 medals; 41 golds, 29 silvers and 26 bronze.
The National Games 2022 is being hosted by Gujarat across six of its cities: Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
Almost 7,000 athletes from 28 Indian States, eight Union Territories and Services, Indian Armed Forces, are competing for medals in 36 different sports disciplines. The game will conclude on October 12.
The entity with the most gold medals at the end of the games is declared the National Games champion.
Services have been crowned champions in the last 3 editions: 2007, 2011 and 2015
