ASEAN foreign ministers meet in Jakarta to discuss the raging and bloody Myanmar Civil War
The ruling military Junta of Myanmar has been fighting a bloody battle against separatists for the last 20 months in an attempt to establish full control over the country. Many of Myanmar's ethnic armed organisations (EAOs) have joined armed civilian groups called People's Defence Force (PDF), which are allied to the self-declared National Unity Government (NUG) in exile.

This ASEAN meet is being held ahead of the ASEAN and East Asia Summits in Cambodia which is scheduled from November 10 to 13. ASEAN countries are divided in their views on how to deal with this regional crisis which may pose a security threat to all.
Where is India Standing?
- The epicentre of the fighting is Chin State and Sagaing Region, which share borders with Mizoram and Manipur.
- And it is a thing to be seen how long the Indian government can remain neutral over this.
- Moreover, there is another front we have to keep an eye on.
- It's the Rakhine State where the military is fighting the Rohingya-dominated Arakan Army (AA).
- With the violence and the refugee crisis often spilling over to Bangladesh, and India - it's a matter of time before India has to take a call on the matter.
- The AA, which is fighting for the independence of Rakhine, has so far kept its distance from the PDFs and the NUG.

Policing is a State subject and states have the right to decide on what uniform the state police must adorn. Modi, however, wants states to think about it.
