India is the second biggest doping violator in the world after Russia

With 62 Indian athletes caught doping, India stands second in the world in drug abuse only behind Russia. Russia has 87 athletes who have been caught consuming performance-enhancing banned drug substances by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of World Athletics.

Points to Note:

  • In total, some 473 athletes have been banned by the AIU.
  • 33% of the total violations - the most among all sports - have been done by long-distance runners.
  • Indian discussion thrower - Kamalpreet Kaur - is a famous one among Indian violators. She has been banned for 3 years beginning 29 March 2022. She can be banned for life in case she is found violating again for the second time.
  • In total 36 athletes have been banned for life and only one among them - hammer thrower Jitender Singh - has been Indian.

Indian President to award Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President’s Bodyguard on October 27, 2022

Common people wishing to participate in the event can register themselves on www.presidentofindia.gov.in. The presentation parade will be followed by an Audio Visual Presentation highlighting the history and significance of the Silver Trumpet & Trumpet Banner and the modern-day role of the PBG. The President’s Bodyguard (PBG) is the only military unit of the Indian Army that is privileged to carry the President’s Silver Trumpet & Trumpet Banner in the country.

PM Modi to attend Chintan Shivir of Home Ministers of states on 28th October

He will address the Chintan Shivir - to be held at Surajkund, Haryana - on 27th & 28th October 2022 via video conferencing. The Shivir will deliberate on issues like the modernization of police forces, cybercrime management, increased use of IT in the criminal justice system, land border management, coastal security, women's safety, and drug trafficking, among others. Home Secretaries and Director Generals of Police (DGPs) of the States and Director Generals of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) & Central Police Organizations (CPOs) will also attend the Chintan Shivir.

The government earns over 254 Crore Rupees from selling scrap under Special Swachhta campaign 2.0

The ongoing campaign - launched on 2nd October - will continue until 31st of October. The motive is to clean up various offices and buildings of the Indian government. Apart from the huge sum of money earned, some 37.19 lac square feet of government space has also been cleared of clutter. All the ministries, departments and offices under the government are participating in this cleanliness campaign.

5 Envoys present their credentials to Indian President Murmu

The High Commissioner of Uganda and Ambassadors of Vietnam, Iran, Sweden and Belgium have presented their credentials to Indian President Droupadi Murmu. Difference between Ambassadors and High Commissioners: Both can be termed as the highest-ranking diplomats responsible for representing their home country on foreign soil. ‘High Commissioner” is nothing but an ambassador to a Commonwealth country. For example, an Indian ambassador to England or Australia will be called High Commissioner whereas an ambassador to any non-commonwealth country will be called just an "Ambassador."

Phase 2 of the Khelo India National Ranking Women’s Weightlifting tournament to begin in Noida and Ghaziabad from tomorrow, October 27, 2022

Top-ranking Indian weightlifters, who are also a part of TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme) will participate in this event which will go on until November 2. This will be the 2nd phase of the league, the inaugural one was held in Himachal Pradesh in June this year. Organised by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) and supported by the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the league will be organized across three age groups: Senior (15 years and above), Junior (15-20 years) and Youth (13-17 years). The total amount of support put forward by the Govt of India to conduct the Khelo India league across all editions is Rs 1.88 Crore, which includes a total cash prize of Rs 48.3 Lakh to the top 8 ranked weightlifters across 10 weight categories in all age groups.
