  • He narrowly beat the outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro by 50.90% votes to 49.10% votes.
  • The event is being seen as a huge shift in the ideological landscape of South America as 6 of the continent's biggest economies: Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Brazil; will now be headed by left-wing governments.

Some interesting facts about Lula da Silva

  • A man who is now going to be the nation's president was in jail - serving a 12-year sentence - just 3 years ago having been convicted for corruption in state-run oil company Petrobras. He remained in Jail for close to 2 years.
  • Thanks to the Supreme Court - who absolved him of all charges - he could fight this presidential election 2022.
  • He has been the President of Brazil for two consecutive terms from 2003 to 2010. Brazilian constitution does not allow a third consecutive presidential term and so he had to drop out of the race with an approval rating as high as 90 per cent in 2010.
  • He heads a left-wing Workers Party (PT) and is fondly remembered for lifting some 25 million Brazilians out of poverty during his tenure as Brazil's President.

Twitter to charge you per month for a blue checkmark

The new Twitter boss Elon Musk is bringing in a lot of changes to how the company functions both from the inside as well as the outside. After firing all the topmost Twitter executives, he is now into plans to generate more income for the company. As per the new blue-tick subscription plan, in exchange for a blue checkmark against your name, you would get several benefits such as priority in replies, mentions and searches. One will also be able to post longer videos and audio and encounter only half as many ads.
