New IAF Airbase to come up in Deesa, Gujarat near the Indo-Pak border to counter air threats from Pakistan

With more than a trillion-dollar industrial complex in Gujarat - so close to Pakistan - the need is felt to ramp up defence of the area. In case of war, Pakistan may try to attack these facilities with the objective to hit India economically. The airbase will be located at Deesa in Banaskantha in North Gujarat, only 130 km away from Indo-Pak border. It will serve as a forward base to tackle enemy aircraft taking off from Pakistani forward airbases such as Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad, Shahbaz F-16 etc. The airbase - expected to be operational by 2024 - will strengthen the offensive capability of Indian Air Force.
