Centre plans to take over the State Highways with high traffic density for 25 years: Nitin Gadkari

"The plan is to develop them as 4 or 6-lane highways and then recover investments through toll collection within 12-13 years," said the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

  • India gets Rs 40 thousand crores from tolls per year at present. Chances are it will rise to Rs 1 lakh 40 thousand crores by the end of 2024.
  • On average, 40 km of roads are constructed per day in the country.
  • India has a total of 65 lakh km length of road with National Highways contributing 1.45 lakh Km of these.
  • To reduce forex outflow on crude oil, and increase self-sufficiency in energy, the centre is diversifying its fuel base to include ethanol, methanol, bio-diesel, bio-LNG, BIO-CNG, electric and green hydrogen to the mix.
  • Making ethanol from sugar cane, bamboo, and other agricultural products will also help the country in increasing its GDP in agriculture.

Odisha to abolish contractual recruitment system, 57000 employees to benefit

In a popular move bound to cost 1,300 crores annually to the exchequer, Odisha government led by the CM Naveen Patnaik has scrapped the contractual recruitment system in the state. The system was in place since 2013. Some 57,000 contractual employees currently working in government institutions will now be regularized.

6th Ashok Singhal Vedic Awards allotted

6th edition of 'Bharatatma Ashok Singhal Vedic Puruskar' was distributed on Monday, 15th October. The honour, Bharatatma Veda Puraskar, was instituted in 2017 in the memory of Ashok Singhal. A Vedic scholar and a former president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Ashok Singhal is most remembered for his contribution to Ram Mandir Movement in Ayodhya. The awards are given to recognize excellence in the Vedic field and relevant genre. It is the most prestigious Ved award in the Vedic field, given yearly in 4 categories of Uttam Veda Vidyarthi, Adarsh ​​Vedadhyapak, Uttam Veda Vidyalaya and Vedarpit Jeevan Puraskar in which three, five, seven and five lakh rupees are provided, respectively.

2nd India-Africa Defence Dialogue to be held on October 18 on the sidelines of DefExpo 2022 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat

‘India-Africa: Adopting Strategy for Synergizing and Strengthening Defence and Security Cooperation,’ will be the theme of the conclave. Lucknow had hosted the inaugural India-Africa Defence Dialogue on February 06, 2020. At the end of the conclave, ‘Lucknow Declaration’ was adopted by both the parties. India-Africa Defence Dialogue, IAAD has been institutionalised to be held once every two years on the sidelines of DefExpo. The IADD will explore new areas of convergence for mutual engagement, including in areas like capacity building, training, cyber security, maritime security and counter terrorism. Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) is the knowledge partner for the India-Africa Defence Dialogue.
