Plant physiology is concerned with the life processes of plants, and has always been focused largely on the higher green terrestrial plants, the autotrophic (self-feeding) plants that feed us animals. In part, plant physiology has roots in agriculture.

Plant physiologists study the physical, chemical and biological functions of living plants, right from the from the whole plant down to the cellular level.

Plant physiology has vibrant scope in the field of agriculture. It is very important to know the functions of a living organism or any of its parts. They also have scope in agriculture fields, medicine, food production and textiles.

Career opportunities for Plant Physiology:
Conduct research in breeding, physiology, production, yield, and management of crops and agricultural plants or trees, shrubs, and nursery stock, their growth in soils, and control of pests; or study the chemical, physical, biological, and mineralogical composition of soils as they relate to plant or crop growth.

Who can study this course?
Undergraduate degree programmes in plant physiology are generally not available, but students may pursue a degree in botany with courses in plant physiology, chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry and botany.
