The Department of Polymer and Process Engineering (DPPE) at IIT Roorkee Saharanpur campus focuses on providing students with a strong foundation in polymer science, engineering, and chemical processes. The department offers a wide range of courses and research opportunities to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field of polymer and process engineering.

Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities and labs to conduct experiments and research projects under the guidance of experienced faculty members. With a focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the DPPE at IITR Saharanpur campus aims to produce graduates who can make significant contributions to the industry and academia in the field of polymer and process engineering.
BTech in Polymer Science and Engineering:
IIT Roorkee offers a four-year Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Polymer Science and Engineering. This programme includes eight semesters. Core subjects include Mathematics, IT, Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering. Topics like Thermodynamics, Mass Transfer, and Energy Balance help students understand polymer processing technicalities.
Graduates will have the skills to understand polymer properties at both macro and molecular levels. This knowledge helps in determining applications of polymers and understanding polymer processing machinery.
PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering:
The IIT Roorkee offers a rigorous PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering. This programme combines coursework with in-depth research. It aims to produce graduates who can solve academic and industrial problems related to polymers and material science.
PhD students focus on relevant research topics and work under faculty members with international exposure. The programme concludes with the defence of a thesis before a panel of experts.
MTech in Polymer Science and Engineering:
The department also offers a two-year, full-time Master of Technology (MTech) in Polymer Science and Engineering. This postgraduate course is designed to address industry needs. The current intake for the programme is 22 students.
MTech students receive fundamental and applied knowledge, preparing them for professional roles. The curriculum and projects are tailored to meet industry requirements.
Integrated Dual Degree Programme:
BTech students in their third year can opt to switch to an MTech programme if they meet the eligibility criteria. This requires a minimum CGPA of 7.5 and consent from the DAPCs of the concerned departments. Successful students will receive both BTech and MTech degrees.
