The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT) has introduced an inventive Certificate Programme in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Design. Beginning September 29, 2024, this extensive six-month program seeks to provide engineers with state-of-the-art knowledge of electric and hybrid car technologies.

Those with diplomas (10+2+3) from accredited universities or engineering graduates in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, and related fields will be able to apply for the new certificate program. September 29 is the scheduled start date for this program. GST included, the course cost is Rs 1,10,000.
Comprehensive Curriculum for EV/HEV Enthusiasts:
Designed to meet the burgeoning demand in India's electric vehicle (EV) market, the curriculum encompasses essential concepts such as thermodynamics, internal combustion engines (IC engines), electric machines and drives, power electronics, automotive hybridization, and battery design and modeling.
Participants will benefit from live sessions conducted by esteemed IIT Delhi faculty members. The program also includes insights aligned with the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) scheme, a Capstone project, and valuable networking opportunities within the automotive industry.
Hands-On Learning Experience:
An optional one-day campus immersion at IIT Delhi's Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART) is available. This offers participants exposure to state-of-the-art facilities and practical learning experiences, enhancing their hands-on understanding of advanced automotive technologies.
Graduates of this program will be able to explain internal combustion engine characteristics and vehicle hybridization processes. They will also understand various electric machines and propulsion technologies used in HEVs, as well as different energy storage system principles.
Skills Development for Future Engineers:
The course is designed for professionals who want to advance their knowledge in the field or who are switching from internal combustion engine technology to electric vehicle technology. The capacity to test and model techniques for characterizing battery performance, safety, and dependability will be imparted to participants. Graduates will be well-prepared for the changing needs of the automotive sector thanks to this extensive training.
An official statement highlights that this initiative aims to bridge the gap in the EV industry by providing specialized knowledge and skills. The program supports India's transition towards sustainable transportation solutions by preparing engineers for future challenges in the automotive industry.
Bridging the Skill Gap in the EV Sector:
IIT Delhi's new certificate program represents a significant step towards addressing the skill gap in the EV sector. By offering advanced training in hybrid electric vehicle design, it prepares engineers to tackle future challenges in the automotive industry and supports India's move towards sustainable transportation solutions.
