What is Mountaineering?

According to Meriam Webster dictionary, mountaineering is the sport or technique of scaling mountains

Types of Mountaineering

Walking

Going around the mountains to explore the place is an activity that mountaineers do as a part of walking.

Hiking

Long, fast paced walking is hiking. This is usually done for health benefits and practised as an exercise.

Climbing

Scaling the mountain height from bottom to top is climbing

Snow Trekking

Climbing a snowy mountain breaking the barriers of temperature and atmosphere is snow trekking.

Camping

Staying in the mountain for days together and getting accustomed to it is called camping.

Roles of a Mountaineer

Climbing Guide

A climbing guide will help amateurs in scaling the mountains. He has to be aware of the weather conditions in order to be able to predict land slides and temperature change. He also knows routes and the nook and corner of the mountain to be able to take the clients to wherever they want.

Liason Officer

This is an official appointed by the government to help co-ordinate with the village headman to provide sufficient facilities for those who want to trek.

Porter

Some times, a porter is required, especially when the journey on the mountains gets tedious. SO porters help other people to carry their baggage and burden all the way through the mountains. Usually, people from a specific ethnic group get into this profession.

Rs 600 to 1500 per day in India
$75 to $125 per day abroad
