Established in 1949, XLRI Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur is the brainwork of Fr. Quinn Enright. The management institute was established by the Society of Jesus in the Steel City of Jamshedpur. The management of the institute is in the hands of Xavier Labour Relations Institute.

XLRI Xavier School of Management is recognized and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. On the international level, it is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AASCB), Florida (USA). The institute is also ISO 9001:2008 certified.

The institute was the first of its kind, the first private college to be established by the Government of Jharkhand and the Society of Jesus.

In 1949, the college was started and is renowned for being the first business management school that offered courses to the trade union members and the management. Later, the college was named Xavier Labor Relations Institute.

The college started offering numerous programmes, including two-year programmes in various streams. It also started offering specialized courses. A doctoral programme, the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), which is equivalent to Ph.D. globally is also conducted at XLRI.

In 2017, the National Institutional Ranking Framework ranked XLRI in the 9th position. Students who are seeking admission to this college should clear the XAT (Xavier Admission Test) and the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) which is conducted every year. XLRI conducts exchange programmes for the students and the faculty with well-known management institutes in the ASEAN and EU countries.

XLRI offers on-campus accommodation for students enrolled in residential programmes. The five modern residence halls provide study areas and social spaces open to the entire community. The latest addition to the list is a world-class hostel, ‘Lake View Hostel.’
The Institute has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility is available on the campus for routine checkup for students as well as staff & also have a dental hospital with state of art facilities

A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
