Women's Christian College, Chennai, is a Christian Minority Interdenominational College established on 7th July 1915 as a joint venture of 12 missionary societies from the UK, USA, and Canada.

It is an autonomous Christian College under Church of South India and widely regarded as one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges for women.

The college is affiliated with University of Madras, Chennai and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (2nd Cycle) on 21st April 2012.

The aim of the college is helping its members realize spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values also conveying as great as an amount of truth as possible through the channel of a good education especially of Bible truth.

It is a women's govt. aided Institute, providing regular courses in which is located in the urban part of Chennai played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government and also conferred the status of as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" and awarded by UGC in April 2016.

The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the University of Madras, Chennai.

The college has been ranked as one of the best colleges in the Arts and Science category in the NIRF rating by the Ministry for Human Resource Development.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate and two years of postgraduate courses in Arts and Science stream with various specializations under the University of Madras, Chennai.

It also offers Ph.D. and Add-On Certificate courses.

The college has its own selection process unlike other colleges under the University of Madras, Chennai. The college has an online application process where prospective applicants are expected to fill in their interests and academic achievements.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the University of Madras, Chennai, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
