Vidya Presarak Mandal's K.G. Joshi College of Arts & N.G. Bedekar College of Commerce, Thane was established on 1st June 1969 and managed under Vidya Prasarak Mandal’s, which was established in 1935.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai, Mumbai in 1988 and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.10 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 5th November 2016.

The aim of the college is inculcating gender equality in a rural area, social awareness, scientific temperament, cleanliness, awareness about environmental issues also to prepare students to take their rightful place in society and contribute to national development.

The Vidya Prasarak Mandal’s Sanstha has been established numbers of colleges/schools for the student in the region of Maharashtra and all over the India.

It is co-educational private institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Thane played a pioneering role in the field of higher education. the campus is located in another city also has a different name of institutions.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. This college has awarded as the best college by the University of Mumbai, Mumbai. It is also certified with ISO 9001:2015 Certification.

The college offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Arts, Commerce, & Management stream with various specializations for the students. The college has started to work in Diploma & Add-On Certificates courses for the students.

The college has been introduced with latest developments in the field of industry and their requirements, the courses Computer Science, Research, and Management Studies have been introduced.

Since 2008 -2009 the VPM has collaborations with the California University of Technology, USA and The University of Skovde Hogskolevagen, Sweden and has established the VPM’s London Academy for Education and Research.
