Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai was established in 1887. Its affiliated to the University of Mumbai.

VJTI Mumbai (estd. in 1887 as Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute) has pioneered India's Engineering Education, Research & training ecosystem. Pre-independence, VJTI had been instrumental in driving industrial growth throughout united India. Post-independence, VJTI played a pivotal role in setting up in IITs and RECs of India and strengthened technology excellence of country.

The Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute was given its present title on January 26, 1997. Founded in 1887, it was then known as Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute.

The institute is reputed for excellent training in courses in engineering and technology in diploma, degree and post graduate levels of over three thousands students. Over twenty seven courses are offered at the undergraduate, post graduate, diploma and postgraduate diploma and post diploma levels. A full time Ph.D programme has been started in 2006-2007 and a total of 108 students are currently on roll.

The institute was granted financial and academic autonomy from June 21, 2004. As a result, the autonomous VJTI has implemented the revised syllabus for the students in June 2004, at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels following the much valued credit system. Syllabus has been revised in 2009 and 2014. The revised scheme of examinations, which follows are grading system and letter grade point system has been implemented. An important part of curriculum is the practically oriented project at the final year of graduation and the dissertations offered by the postgraduate students.

In 1997, VJTI changed its name to Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute to honor mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Located in South Mumbai, VJTI is an autonomous institution owned by Maharashtra State Government. The institue offers programs in engineering and technology at the diploma, degree, post-graduate and doctoral levels.

VJTI is known for its high quality teaching, collaborative research, industry connect and strong alumni network.
