University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, Bengaluru was formerly known as Government Engineering College was established in 1917 by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

It is the fifth engineering college to be established in the country and constituent college of Bangalore University which gives it a special status of a university.

It is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and it was recognized and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

It was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with A+ & National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

The aim of the college is to focus on education and research, entrepreneurship and innovation also offering training oriented towards producing highly qualified practitioners and researchers.

It is a co-educational public Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Bengaluru played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

College At A Glance:

It is one of the oldest technical institutions in the country, imparting technical education leading to B.E, B.Arch, M.E, M.Arch and Ph.D. degrees in the various disciplines of Engineering and Architecture.

The college started in 1917 in Bangalore as a School of Engineering with 20 students in civil and mechanical engineering branches in the PWD building.

It was the fifth engineering college to be started in India and the first one in Mysore State. Later the name of the college was changed to University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering after its founder in 1965.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under the affiliating university.

The college has been rated amongst the top 15 Engineering Institutions in the country and received Top 10 rank among engineering colleges in Bengaluru.

The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses of study and research including Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Technology, Master of Business Administration and offers programs leading to an award of Ph.D. in various disciplines.

The institution offers seven undergraduate (B.E / B.Arch) and twenty-four postgraduate (M.E / M.Arch.) programmes. The institute has awarded 153 Ph.D. degrees.

The college receives financial aid under the TEQIP program from the World Bank.

The admission of students to the undergraduate courses is entirely on the basis of merit through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the state government.

The entrance to post-graduate courses is through the Graduate Degree basis, GATE, and entrance test Results. At present, this is the only engineering college in the annals of the Bangalore University.
