University of Patanjali, Haridwar has been sponsored by Patanjali Yogpeeth (Trust) to establish and incorporate a University with facilities for education, training and research in the areas of Yoga, Ayurveda and culture of Medicinal Herbs/ Plants and studies and in related areas.
University of Patanjali (UOP) is a manifestation of the divine vision of His Holiness Swami Ramdev and Revered Acharya Balkrishna to establish a center for an integral education blending all spectrums of oriental wisdom and scientific knowledge. The university aims at innovating teaching-learning and research to produce professionally competent, personally elevated and socially empathetic alumni. Asceticism, health care, integral education and entrepreneurship are its four major domains of teaching-learning and interdisciplinary research.
The objective of the university is to fulfill resolution of saints & sages for disease free world, while establishing ‘Pran’ (oxygen) as evidence based medicine in the world through conducting clinical trials & research in genetically disorders as well as incurable diseases like Cardiac disease, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, cancer etc and to build a prosperous India by continuous research in the field of medicinal plants to support & build medicinal plants based agriculture enabling poor laborers & farmers to earn their bread & butter easily.
The University of Patanjali (UoP) is named after the great Indian sage Patanjali (c. 900 BC,), who first compiled the numerous writings on Yoga in the form of aphorisms. It was established through Act No. 4/2006 of Uttarakhand State legislature published in the State Gazette on 05.04.2006. The University is sponsored by Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust (PYP) and is located on Delhi Haridwar National Highway at Bhadrabad, Haridwar by the Ganges. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities.
Education is a systematically developed fruit of human civilization. The ancient Gurukuls learnt and then passed on to disciples the wisdom of the saints collected in the Vedas and Upanishads with emphasis on knowledge of the Self to serve humanity better. The modern education system has restricted itself to gaining information for employment purposes and very little stress was on personality development for social co-existence. From self sustaining use of natural resources to self-destructive materialism, Revered Yog Rishi Swami Ramdev and Ayurveda Shiromani Acharya Balkrishna have given the clarion call of ‘Back to Nature’ and propounded the path of natural food to health and happiness through Yoga and Ayurveda. With the growing mass following, more Indians are eager to go back to its Ancient roots of Wisdom. Asceticism, health care, integral education and entrepreneurship are its four major domains of teaching-learning.

The objective behind the inauguration of this institution has been to impart education on theoretical and practical aspects of Yoga and Spirituality; Natural, Applied and Social Sciences; Oriental Medical Systems; value based Management and Journalism; Social Sciences and allied studies among the youth to propagate, promote, and contemporize cultural, medicinal and Vedic heritages of India worldwide irrespective of gender, cast, creed and regions.
