Ujani Majuli Kherkatia (UMK) College, Jorhat was established on 9th August, 1973. It is one of the premier & co-educational institution established to facilitate qualitative higher education for the rural students of Majuli and its nearby areas.

The college aim is to spread Higher Education at Higher Secondary and Degree level in Arts stream and Besides providing knowledge and formal education, the college aims at developing physical acumen by making students learn different kinds of games and sports.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "C++" Grade.

The college is outfitted with all modern amenities within a quiet campus, enriched with picturesque natural surroundings. The college offers several undergraduate courses in Arts faculty.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Science stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science stream under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh. The college also conducts a Six-Months Diploma Course in Computer Application.
