Tarakeswar Degree College, Hooghly was established in 1986 and its affiliated to University of Burdwan.

Tarakeswar Degree College was established on 5th September, 1986. The college was initially built on 3.5 acres of land that was donated by his Holiness Sri Srimat Dandiswami Hrishikesh Ashram Mahanta Maharaj of Tarakeswar Math. Additionally, generous help and kind support from the Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Sri Anil Basu and Hon'ble Minister of Fire & Emergency Services Department, Govt. of West Bengal, Sri Pratim Chatterjee, Sri Shankar Ray Chowdhury, Ex-General of Army & Member of Rajya Sabha from thier Local Area Development Funds has been intrumental in shaping the college.

A relatively new academic institute, Tarakeswar Degree College has evolved as one of the best undergrad colleges in the district. Over the years, with ample support from the locales, the active co-operation of Tarakeswar Municipality and the new mass-oriented higher education policy of West Bengal Government have helped the college stretch its academic limits, diversify the courses offered and expand it's physical coverage as well.

The college is a government aided college recognized by UGC and affiliated to University of Burdwan.
