Established on 1st August 1983, Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce in Pune was founded by Dr. S.B. Mujumdar. The college has a strong backing of Symbiosis and is one of the renowned institutes with several achievements it can boast of.

Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune and it was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) in July 1989 & 12(B) in March 1996 under the UGC Act, 1956. It was re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade (CGPA score 3.51 on a 4 point scale in the 3rd cycle) on 28th March 2017.

It is one of the 36 branches of the Symbiosis Society. It has turned out to be a college of international repute because of its nature: multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary and multi-national.

Being a grants-in-aid college, the government decides on the fee structure and the facilities to be provided to the students. The admission procedure of the college is decided by the affiliating university.

Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce became autonomous from the academic year 2012-13. The college was also recognized and conferred the status of “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi on 1st April 2016.

According to a survey conducted by India Today and Neilson-Org Marg, the college ranked as the best college in the city of Pune for ten consecutive years and one of the best ten colleges in the country.

Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce believes in combining traditional education with practical know-how by making use of the present-day worldwide best practices in education. Hence, with a strong theoretical base and skill sets to put these theories into practice, the students of this college are all ready to face the world when they graduate from the college.

Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce offers Master of Commerce (a two years program) and Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce (three years programs). Under the Symbiosis Centre for Liberal Arts (SCLA), an initiative of the college, it also offers diploma and certificate courses in liberal arts.

The college has started offering from the academic year 2014-2015 a ‘Degree with Honours’ programme for the B.A./B.Com. students with the aim of providing theoretical and practical skills to the students to increase their employability.

The ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) course is offered at the Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce which is an international level certification and is designed according to the needs of employers.

The college has a multicultural, academic and interdisciplinary student community and the college believes in creating an environment that stimulates young minds and broadening the perspective of students through conferences, seminars, workshops, field visits and guest lectures. Exchange programmes are conducted through student exchange programmes and student’s semester abroad.

The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 1st July 2006 to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually

Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs

A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
