Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad was founded in 1963 with capacity of 75 annual admissions, later increased to 100 from 1964.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation was only the second Municipal Corporation - next to Mumbai - to establish a medical college of its own.
From its humble beginning, the college has now blossomed into one of the most advanced and prestigious medical colleges in the country to-day.
The objective of the college is not only to produce a good doctor but good citizen with empathy for poor patients.
The college came into being with pious triveni sangam of generous donation of Rs. 14.25 Lakhs from Smt. Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand charitable trust, laudable policy of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to promote medical education and to provide best possible medical care to the citizens of Ahmedabad and the dedication of Dr. M.D. Desai, the then Superintendent of Sheth V.S. Hospital and founder Dean of the college.
