Smt Geeta Bankar Women's College of Education, Solapur was established in 2005. It is affiliated to Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University (SNDT Women’s University).
The college is Recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Bhopal. The educational institution conducts one year of full-time undergraduate degree level course of Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) in Marathi medium.
Maharashtra even today shows sangola Taluka and region as drought prone backward area. Still today mass-illiteracy, economical backwardness caused by rare rains are the salient features of the area. For several reasons the area has remained bereft of higher education even almost for two decades after Independence.
In such conditions a sparkle emerged as a boon to this region in the form of Honb. Prof. Shri Laxmanrao Dhobale who with his foresighted vision decided to change drastically the whole region - economically, socially and culturally through education. Rightly the event was the establishment of shahu shikshan sanstha, on 10th June 1980, seed in educational development as the root of all further coming social and cultural ethos. The innovation was establishment of free library in 1980, leading today to multi-faceted educational institution canvassing K. G. to P. G. education, educating about 5000 students with 450 staff.

1. To impart education to one and all respective of economic and social status.
2. To take special cares to educate women and to bring awareness about their position in the present scenario.
3. To guide society by organizing guest lectures, sports and cultural activities.
4. To make and prepare students competitive enough to step in the competitive world.
5. To cultivate and develop values like national integration, patriotism, humanism, secularism, scientific temperament socialism, social peace and harmony.
6. All round development of the students searching and developing the individual talent.
7. Expansion of educational institutes in the region in terms of primary, secondary and higher education.
8. Organizing training programs to enhance quality education .
