Silpanchal Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Hatatota was established in 2003.

It is an affiliated private College. Along with an excellent academic ambience, the emphasis here is on quality education through various teaching aids and over all development of the students through different interactive sessions.

The College pursues its objective of providing quality education in the field of Arts, Science and Commerce to ensure development of human resources both personality-wise and career-wise. It also aims to create such an environment that can make the students a good citizen in life and professional in career.

The college is affiliated to Utkal University, established in 1943. This is the oldest university in Orissa and the seventeenth oldest university in India. The University was started under the Utkal University Act, 1943.

It is a teaching-cum-affiliating University that has produced some of the best brains in Orissa.

There are at present twenty-six Post-Graduate Departments located in the University Campus for studies and research in various disciplines of Science, Humanities, Business Administration, Social Science and others.

It has the largest space amongst all universities in Bhubaneswar and is also the most centrally located one. It has one of the highest numbers of educational departments in India and is also the state largest in this respect.

The University has now the jurisdiction over 9 districts, viz, Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri and is spread over an area of 24,973 sq. kilometers catering to the needs of higher education of a population of more than 110 lakhs.Utkal University has been recognized by UGC and it also has the membership of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
