Silapathar College, Dhemaji was established in 1979. It is one of the premier institution located in the heart of a rapidly growing small township Silapathar which is surrounded by villages of tribal and backward communities in the Dhemaji District of Assam.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is first accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in 2005 and was subsequently re-accredited (cycle 2) in 2015 obtaning "B" Grade with CGPA of 2.62.

It was brought under deficit system of Grants-in-aid in 1992 and was subsequently provincialised in 2005 by the Government of Assam.

The college provides education for Higher Secondary and Under Graduate levels in Arts Faculty. From the session 2016-17, the college is also introducing Higher Secondary course in Science Stream. Self financing course in Computer Applications, UGC sponsored Career Oriented Programme like Travel and Tourism Management.

Certificate Courses under different UGC sponsored study centres like Women Studies Centre, Indira Gandhi Study Centre & Dr. Ambedkar Study Centre and UG and
PG Distance Education programmes under Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU), Guwahati & Directorate of Distance Education, Dibrugarh University (DDEDU) are offered in the college.

Rules and Regulations at Silapathar College, Dhemaji:

  • Every student of the college must strictly maintain discipline either individually or in a body in the college campus. Any student found to have a conduct detrimental to academic environment of the college shall immediately be expelled from the college
  • Every student of the college is a member of the Silapathar College "Students Union" and, therefore, he/she will have to participate in any event organized by the union under the control and guidance of the principal and the teaching staff. The Union will have to function within the framework of the rules and regulations prescribed by the college authority from time to time
  • All notices / posters / banners desired to be circulated on the notice board or elsewhere within the college campus shall require prior permission of the principal
  • The signature of the Principal on the Identity Card must be obtained within 15 days from the date of admission. The Identity Card must be kept in possession by all students in the college campus all the time
  • All the office bearers of the "Students Union" must submit their audited accounts and allied documents/materials to the Principal at the end of academic session immediately before filling up the forms for examination
  • All students including the office bearers of the Union must obtain Library Clearance Certificate from the authority concerned before filling up forms for examination
  • Damage or destruction of college properties and involvement in causing disruption of normal functioning of classes is treated as heinous offence which will lead to expulsion from the college along with fine
  • Indecent behaviour by students towards teachers and employees of the college will be seriously dealt with severe punishment
  • Use of drugs, cigar and narcotic substances is strictly prohibited
  • Tearing of library books, journals etc. resorts to payment of compensation
  • Wearing of uniform in indecent way, bearing of informal haircut etc. are strictly prohibited
  • No use of mobile phone is allowed in the college campus. Any student found to have violated this rule will attract severe punishment with seizure of the phone

  • The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds
  • Special remedial classes are organized for the academically poor students, the economically vulnerable but meritorious students are provided free admission and other in-house scholarships
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
