Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), located at Tadong, is a constituent college of the Sikkim Manipal University (SMU).

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) is a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) established in the year 1997 as Central Referral Hospital. The first batch of MBBS students were enrolled in the year 2001.

Exhibiting a unique combination of Sikkimese style and modern architecture, SMIMS is spread in a sprawling area of 25 acres of mountainous land. The Institute provides a very congenial environment for academic activities with lecture theatres well equipped with all modern audio visual amenities All courses run by the university are approved by the regulatory bodies like Medical Council of India (MCI), Nursing Council of India, Indian Association of Physiotherapy.

The Sikkim Manipal University of Health Medical and Technological Sciences (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2009 was passed by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly on 12 Dec, 2009 and received the assent of The Governor of Sikkim on the 22nd of January 2010. Vide Notification No. 13/LD/P/2010, Dated: 08/04/2010 of Sikkim Government, Sikkim Manipal University of Health Medical and Technological Sciences was changed to Sikkim Manipal University.

According to the said Act the University would be able to disseminate advanced knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities for promoting interdisciplinary studies in the University.

SMIMS offers MBBS, BSc. Nursing and Physiotherapy courses, besides M.Sc Programs in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Physiology and Anatomy. The Central Referral Hospital and STNM Hospital in Gangtok offer clinical training opportunities to students.
