Sibsagar Girls College (SGC), Sivasagar was established in 1964. It is one of the premier institution for the girls in the region of Sibsagar, Sivasagar Dist..

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956 in June 2003. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade with 2.75 CGPA.

It is situated in an urban setting and has a campus area of 5.28 acres. It was established with the objective of giving boost to Female Education in the District of Sivasagar that is inhabited by people belonging to OBC / SC / ST categories besides a sizable number of tea garden labourers.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Science stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science stream under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Courses.

The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff with special coaching.

There is a provision of Grievance Redressal Cell in the college which assists the principal in studying and processing the feed backs of the students and discussions are held to under take necessary steps towards redressal and improvisation.
The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds.
Special remedial classes are organized for the academically poor students, the economically vulnerable but meritorious students are provided free admission and other in-house scholarships
