Shri R.R. (Ramji Ravji) Lalan College, Bhuj was established in 1953 with the donation of a significant amount of 1.25 lac by a visionary businessman Shri Ramji Ravji Lalan of Koday village near Mandvi. After its humble beginnings in temporary premises, the college got its building at its present location.
The college is affiliated to K.S.K.V. Kuchchh University, Kutch (Krantiguru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachchh University, Kutch) and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in 2008.
R.R. Lalan College of Arts and Science is one of the oldest colleges of Gujarat state and the first college of Kutch (Kachchh) district. The college holds the credit to be the first higher educational institute in the district of Kachchh.
The college during the years of commencement - from 1953 to 1956 - used to be at DarbarGarh in the palace campus. In 1956 the college was shifted to the new building at Mandvi road, opposite to the new palace of H.E. Maharao Shri Madan Singhji.
The building was inaugurated by Indira Gandhi who is the first female Prime Minister of India from the year 1966 to 1977.
The institute is spread over on 16 acres of land with all the basic facilities. The main building of the college has 40 lecture-theatres, several laboratories, department faculty and staff rooms, principal’s office with the administrative unit, library and reading room and a sports and gymnasium unit.
In the massive earthquake of 2001, the building was severely damaged but the campus remained the hub of rehabilitation activities in the area. The present building of the college was raised in 2005 with funds from UGC and the state government.
Initially, with a few subjects of languages and social studies, the college imparted much to the society. After 1960 Chemistry and Physics were introduced, while Geology was introduced in 1988. Now the college offers 14 subjects in Arts and Science faculties. It also offers UGC sponsored Career Oriented Courses.
