Satish Chandra College, Ballia was established in 1947. The College is affiliated firstly to the Agra University followed by Gorakhpur University and currently to the Vir Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University.

Satish Chandra College, on of the oldest institutions of the eastern zone of Uttar Pradesh, was founded by the membres of the L.D. Meston School Society in 1947 after the name of reverend Late Satish Chand Giri who made a stupendous conribution in terms of money and mind with a far vision of long academically rich Ballia, a place which had been deprived of higher education. The college is the first ever to deliver the education of under graduate level. This college is embedded with its renowned history of producing manifold elegant personalities. The college is on N.H. 19 from Ghazipur to Hazipur just beside Bhrigu Ashram and about 1 Km. away from the railway station en-route.

The institution dedicated to enlightening young minds enjoys a long, rich and illustrious past. The institution with extensive infrastructure in place including a spacious campus, learned professors and a fully equipped library and labs does invaluable service to the country in the field of higher education.

The College is also host to a centre of the Indira Gandhi National Open University where apart from the undergraduate courses computer and B.Ed courses are also conducted. 

The college is provided with reasonably a good infrastructure. It has its own newly developed Pt. Gorakh Nath Upadhyay Sport stadium and wide open space. This institution is blessed with highly qualified, well versed and efficient profesors who are discharging their responsibility by rendering their valuable service by enlightening and educating the minds of students through differnet subjects. This is the centre of Indira Gandhi National Open Univrsity Since 1988.

Ballia albeit being gravely backward, has been a centre of religiosity and spirituality and recognised as Bhrigunagari since the place has been Tapasthali of Maharshi Bhrigu. The holy rivers like the Ganges, the Saryu and the Tamsa embrace this land and turn it pious. Ballia has been blessed with out saintly ancestors, Bali and Bhrigu. The college was initially affiliated with Agra University which in due course of time got its affiliation under Gorakhpur University in 1958 followed by Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur with its emergence in year 1988. Presently, the college imparts education upto the post-graduate level in varuous disciplines of Arts and Science having its affiliation with Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi.
