Sadiya College, Tinsukia was established in 1982 and affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh.

It is situated in one of the Sub-Divisions of Tinsukia District, is the eastern most backward and historical place in the state of Assam.

It has come a long way in imparting education to the academically and economically disadvantaged students and promoting socio-cultural relation among the diverse ethnic group.

Breif History:

It is geographically isolated by the mighty Brahmaputra / Lohit, the Dibang and the Kundil River. Neither railway nor a park of National Highway suits here.

The destructive earthquake and the devastating flood occurred in 1950 have changed the geographical as well as picturesque view of old Sadiya which the people of Sadiya have been remembering that cursed year even off from the rest of Assam, has been laying being connected with two contagious districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

There was not a single institution of higher education in the Sub-Division. More than 95% of the local people are cultivators and only a few of them could send their children to various places for pursing higher education by crossing the Brahmaputra.

As it was not affordable for all people for which academic careers of most of Brilliant students of Sadiya ended after completion of the School Education and their dreams of Higher Education were nipped in the bud under such compulsions or circumstances, on a auspicious day with a Education.

Some farsighted citizens of the locality have decided to set up a degree college at the heart of Sadiya in historic meeting held in the 1st part of August 1982 at Sadiya Govt. H.S. School. As a result of that historic meeting Sadiya College was established at Chapakhowa Town in 1982 by expanding the periphery of Education.

The college has at present seven Under Graduate Departments and one subject; i.e. Business management in the Higher Secondary level (Dept. of Commerce). The under graduate departments are: Assamese, Economics, English, History, Political Science, Sociology and Commerce (B.Com).

The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff with special coaching
The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab, play ground & hostel etc.
The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
The college has well equipped with Laboratories. Laboratory has facilities for both statistical and psychological experiments to be performed with apparatus
The college has boys hostel attached to the students on the basis of their merit as well 20 boarders. The seats are alloted to the students on the basis of their merit as well as the distance of their residence
The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
Internet facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
The college provides facilities for NSS to inculcate the sense of dignity of labour among students and to develop work culture in them
The college has been trying to start NCC from last few years under centrally sponsored scheme subject to the permission of the Directorate but not yet. But to hope for it
The college considers its own responsibility for sensitizing the student community towards their civic responsibilities. Activities and experience gathered during cleanliness drives, plantation and social works etc. by NSS, Students Union etc. to prepare the students to be responsible citizen for future
There is a provision of Grievance Redressal Cell in the college which assists the principal in studying and processing the feed backs of the students and discussions are held to under take necessary steps towards redressal and improvisation
The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds
Special remedial classes are organized for the academically poor students, the economically vulnerable but meritorious students are provided free admission and other in-house scholarships
