S.D College, Barnala was established in 1956.

Its affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala.

It is one of the prestigious institutions of the region.

The college is run by S.D. College Educational Society, Barnala.

Originally it was an arts college affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Later on as per Punjab Government notification, the college is falling in four districts namely Patiala, Sangrur, Bathinda and Ropar.
