RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru or Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering, Bengaluru was established in 1963 and managed by Rashtreeya Shikshana Samiti Trust.
It is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and it is recognized and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
It is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and for the Architecture Department is approved by Council of Architecture (Government of India).
The aim of the college is to focus on education and research, entrepreneurship and innovation also offering training oriented towards producing highly qualified practitioners and researchers.
It is a co-educational self-financed Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Bengaluru played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under the affiliating university.

The college also has ties to the Kuvempu University, Shimoga and Mangalore University. The college had the highest number of gold medal-winners among colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2008.
Students are admitted to undergraduate courses on basis of their merit in the Karnataka CET test, or in the COMED-K undergraduate test. Students are also admitted through a management quota, which does not place merit requirements.
Students are admitted to postgraduate courses on basis of their GATE test scores, as well as on their Post Graduate Karnataka CET scores.
RVCE follows the credit-based system of performance evaluation, with proportional weighting of courses based on their importance.
