Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru was formerly known as M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) was established in 1962 by the late M. S. Ramaiah and under the management of Gokula Education Foundation.

RIT is in the 56th year of existence and is one of the oldest autonomous private engineering colleges in south India.

It is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and it is recognized and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

For the Architecture Department is approved by Council of Architecture(Government of India).

The college has been awarded a certificate of ISO 9001:2008 Certification.

The aim of the Institute is to focus on education and research, entrepreneurship and innovation also offering training oriented towards producing highly qualified practitioners and researchers.

It is a co-educational self-financed Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Bengaluru played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under the affiliating university.

The college has been received 45th rank by the National Institutional Ranking Framework and 15th by India Today among engineering colleges in India.

RIT is the only engineering college in Bangalore that is autonomous for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

RIT offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses of study and research including Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Technology, Master of Business Administration and offers programs leading to an award of Ph.D. in various disciplines.

The Institute is also a research centre in 12 areas including engineering and management disciplines.

Admission to these programmes is through COMED-K, CAT, GATE, & NATA conducted every year for the B.Tech, MBA, M.Tech. & Architecture.

The course structure followed in all the programmes at the Institute follow the Choice-based Credit System (CBCS).

The Institute has been conducted outreach programs like EXCITE program to motivate high school children on Information Technology.
