Rangia College, Rangia was established on 5th August, 1963. It is one of the premier institution of higher education on the north bank of the Brahmaputra in the District of Kamrup.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade in 2004 and subsequently re-accredited as National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade in 2010 with 2.80 CGPA.

The college owes its birth to the dedicated efforts of philanthropist and freedom fighters of the region under the leadership of Siddhinath Sarma, a towering personality of Assam having a campus area of 45 bighas (approx. 15 acres).

Despite a humble beginning, through the sincere efforts and dedication of a handful of local educational entrepreneurs, the college has now become a full-fledged college with three streams (Arts, Science and Commerce).

The Golden Jubilee Year of its establishment was celebrated on 5th August, 2013. During the course of five decades, it has produced a good number of graduates who are now serving in different areas of social responsibility.

The college has rendered pioneering services to the community by catering to the needs of the vast and extensive area inhabited predominantly by socially and economically backward segments of the population.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts, Science & Commerce stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts, Science & Commerce stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.

The college has a vision of building the college as a centre of academic excellence within the next ten years time.

Rangia College solemnly pledges to relentlessly pursue the Mission of “Transmission of knowledge, wisdom, skill and competence" from one generation to another.

Goals and Objectives:

To give the educational facilities to the young generation particularly belonging to the socially and economically backward communities of the entire North Kamrup area
To impart education to the students of Arts, Science and Commerce faculties with the purpose of making them capable resourceful citizens
To impart education in vocational subjects
To introduce new subjects and courses to keep pace with the changing situations
To provide exclusive facilities to the students for their physical intellectual and cultural development
To create a healthy academic atmosphere in the locality
To produce quality students equipped with moral, spiritual, aesthetic values to face the challenges of life
To create a pragmatic approach in the minds of the students the socio-economic realities of life
To take such other academic programmes as may be deemed necessary from time to time

The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab, play ground etc.
The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed.

A magazine is published by the college every year where students and teachers get opportunity to show their skill in creative writing.

Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college.
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
Scouts and Guides is another important wing of the college. lt helps to bring discipline, a feeling of brotherhood, nationalism and patriotism amongst the students. Further, it helps to get a way for vocation having completion of the course successfully. Students can opt for Scouts and Guides during their course of study in the college.
