On August 20, 1994, Rajeev Gandhi College, Bhopal was established under the aegis of Chouhan Education Society to impart quality education for deserving candidates.

The college is affiliated to Barkatullah University, Bhopal and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on February 23, 1998, under Act, 1956. It was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

It was also approved by Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP), Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) - Bhopal, and Bar Council of India (BCI), New Delhi.

The college was established with the objective of providing education among the poor and educationally backward class. At certain extent, it is true today also because a large number of students come to this college from the remote places, peripheries and nearby villages and at the same time because of its quality education this college has become the first choice of elite class and meritorious students also.

The college staff is more concerned about students learning which is evaluated by regular class test, interaction with student's, assignments. To assess his preparation for final exams college conducts a pre-university exam. It is based on the university exam pattern.

At present, the college offers courses in unique stream categories like Commerce, Computer Science, Science, Physiotherapy, Arts, Education, and Law with various specializations.
