Department of Computer Science - Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, was established in 1980 when Computer Science was little known.

It is also known as Pune University, Computer Science Department (PUCSD) aims at providing quality education in Computer Science for the deserving candidates.

The department is recognized & approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and run the courses under Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.

This Department is one of the earliest CS Departments started in Indian Universities. Back in 1980, when computer science was little known and the word IT didn't exist, a one-year programme was started towards the B.Sc. (Applied) degree in Computer Science.

The MCA programme was launched in 1983, the M.Tech degree programme in 1985, and the one year B.Sc (Applied) programme was upgraded to a two year M.Sc. in Computer Science in 1986.

As with any educational institution, students give the department a dynamic character and an active culture towards Computer Science, guided by their faculty.

Apart from teaching postgraduate level Computer Science, the faculty is also involved in research, consultancy and development programs. The support structure of the department provides all the required non-academic support to the students and the faculty.

PUCSD takes care to ensure that the basic scientific principles of Computer Science are presented to the student and actively tries to point out the differences between the Computation as a science and software. Our mission statement elucidates this point further.

Admissions to MCA & M.Sc Programmes is through the common entrance test conducted by the Computer Science Department, University of Pune. Whereas admissions to M.Tech Programme is through GATE Score.

PUCSD has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed for the students and teachers as per their needs
Transportation facility is available for the students
PUCSD also has a hostel with providing all the facilities, security and good atmosphere, best suited for studies of the boys & girls coming from far-off places
The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
PUCSD also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
