PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, was established in 1951 by the PSG & Son's Charities Trust, which was established in 1926.

The institute is situated at about 8 km from Coimbatore Railway Station and 5 km for Airport. The campus is spread over 45 acres of land with panoramic green surroundings, elegant landscaping, and beautiful flower-beds.

The institute was conferred the "Autonomous" status by the University of Madras, Chennai in the academic year 1978-79, which is continued by the Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and subsequently by Anna University, Chennai.

The institute at present affiliated with Anna University, Chennai and it is recognized and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

It is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and conferred the certificate of ISO 9001:2008 Certification.

The aim of the college is to focus on education and research, entrepreneurship and innovation also offering training oriented towards producing highly qualified practitioners and researchers.

It is a co-educational govt. institute, providing regular courses in which is located in the urban part of Coimbatore played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The institute also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under the affiliating university.

The institute has been rated one amongst the top ten private Engineering Institutions in the country and received the rank among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

At present, the institute offers Engineering and Management courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels by offering various specializations under the affiliating university and offers programs leading to an award of Ph.D. in various disciplines.

Also, it offers three 5 years integrated engineering courses which combine classroom coaching with industrial training, one of the few in the country to offer such a course

The undergraduate courses are granted academic autonomy by the university. The college is also a research center including engineering and management disciplines.

The institute is recognized as Centre of Excellence under Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) and Ministry of Human Resources Development, DST by Government of India.

The institute has industry collaborations and Memorandums of Understanding (MoU)s with companies and universities. The college has tied up with universities in India, the United States, Germany, South Korea and Singapore. Students are admitted to postgraduate courses on basis of their GATE test scores.

The institute has its also own selection process unlike other colleges under affiliating University. The institute has an online application process where prospective applicants are expected to fill in their interests and academic achievements.

Admissions here done are based on the merit obtained by the aspirants with the minimum aggregate of 50% in their previous courses in the relevant field.
