Progressive Education Society's Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Shivajinagar (Dist. Pune) was established on 15th June 1970 and managed by Progressive Education (P.E.) Society(R), Pune which was established on 6th May 1934.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st September 1971 under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade (CGPA Score 3.51 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 23rd January 2017.

The Progressive Education Society has been established numbers of colleges/schools for the student in the region of Maharashtra and all over the India.

It is a co-educational self-financed private institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Pune played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

The college was also recognized & conferred the status as “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi on 16th September 2011.

The college has also received Basic Scientific Research (BSR) grant from UGC. It is also funded by DST, New Delhi, under Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure (FIST) scheme. Recently, DBT, Govt. of India, has sanctioned ‘Star College Scheme’ to this college.

The college offers three years undergraduate & two years postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce streams with various specializations under Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. It also offer Ph.D. and Add-On Certificate Courses.
