An autonomous engineering college, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) is one of the youngest engineering colleges in the country was established in 2001. It is managed under Nitte Education Trust.

The college was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956. The college was also conferred the status of 'Autonomous' by UGC, New Delhi in the year 2007.

NMIT is a private, self-financing and autonomous institution permanently affiliated to the Visweswaraiah Technological University, Belagavi and accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. It is recognized and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

NMIT has academic bodies such as Governing Council, Academic Council, Board of Studies, Department of Undergraduate Committee and others.

At present, the college offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate courses in engineering stream with various specializations. It also offers few courses in management and diploma stream as well.
