Nistarini College, Purulia was established in 1957.

Its affiliated to University of Burdwan.

The college is situated in an urban area with a campus spread over approximately 18 Bighas (6 acres). The institution was recognized under 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act, 1956.

The college, being the only Women's College in the entire district of Purulia enjoys the grant-in-aid status of the Government of West Bengal.

The College is named after Smt. Nistarini Devi, (the proud mother of Sri Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, the nationalist leader) who being one of the first lady graduates of West Bengal took steps to educate the women of the backward classes of the District.

The college started in the Summer House of the great nationalist leader Deshbandhu C.R. Das. The Foundation Stone of the Academic Building was laid by the then Hon'ble President of the Indian Republic Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 6th November 1958.

The inauguration of the Academic Building was done by the then Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr. B. C. Roy.The College has state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure.
