National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali was popularly known as NIPER Mohali. It is an Indian public pharmacy research university, and a part of the seven schools, under India's Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers established in 1998.

The institute offers Masters and Doctoral degrees in pharmaceutical sciences. As an Institute of National Importance, it plays an important role in the Human Resource Development for the ever-growing Indian Pharmaceutical industry, which has been in the forefront of India’s science-based industries with wide ranging capabilities in this important field of drug manufacture.

The institute offers a 2 year PG degree course; MS (Pharm.) in 13 disciplines ( Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Clinical Research, Pharmacy Practice, Natural products, Biotechnology, Pharmacoinformatics, Traditional medicine, and Pharmaceutics) and MBA (Pharm.

National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is the first national level institute in pharmaceutical sciences with a proclaimed objective of becoming a centre of excellence for advanced studies and research in pharmaceutical sciences. The Government of India has declared NIPER as an 'Institute of National Importance'.

It is an autonomous body set up under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. The Institute is conceived to provide leadership in pharmaceutical sciences and related areas not only within the country but also to the countries in South East Asia, South Asia, and Africa. NIPER is a member of Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities.
